October Part 1 in Pictures

Ok...You can't say I didn't warn ya that October would be a super busy month. Birthday's, driver's education and let's not forget Halloween all crowd into a wonderful thing I call LIFE♥! Because I have so much wonderful goodness to share ~ (sharing here on my blog helps me remember) ~ all of my October goodies will not be in this post. -->insert very sad face<--- nbsp="nbsp" span="span">--->
So since a photo is worth a thousand words.........here's some photos!
Here's my DD, Shaina, with her bestie, Angel, on the first day of driver's education. Scary for the Mama's and just in case you can't tell from those beautiful smiles, super duper exciting for them.
And of course, these little ladies passed the course with flying colors! The same day they finished they both were at the DMV taking the exam for their permits. Complete success! Sniff, Sniff! My baby is growing up. Only a parent knows the feeling of being ever so proud and a bit sad all at the same time. Sigh......
The back story on this photo is that it's my Daddy's birthday present. Shhh...no, I will not tell you what it is yet...teeheee! My Daddy is not a big one for foo-fooey stuff esp. gift wrap, so I always go OUT OF MY WAY to make all his gifts from me just that. He does a great job taking it in stride and I think he secretly loves it but can't admit it.
Ta-Da!!! See that smile....SCORE!!!!! Brownie points for me! I remembered that my Mama mentioned he wanted a HUGE wind chime. It's not the huge one he wanted but it was the biggest one I could find that day. It sounds amazing and so peaceful when the wind blows it. Seriously though, there's something special that's all warm and fuzzy that wraps around you when you can bring joy and happiness to a parent. Or as we say in the south...your Mama and Daddy♥
And this is George ~ George Bones to be exact. He was not to be left out at Daddy's birthday. See....we save mayonnaise jars for George. He loves to lick all the extra we can't get out of them. And if you have not guessed yet, the ones I bring him always have a bit extra. If you look closely at the paw on the jar, it's a huge paw, not a small jar. George happens to be a bull mastiff. Size wise, he's about the size of a miniature horse. He is spoiled rotten, so rotten in fact, that during the summer my Daddy fills up a big bowl of ice cubes from the ice maker and George will chew on them like we would eat a bag of potato chips.
So that's part 1 of October. Coming up....oh well....you will see...

My Perfectly Boiled Eggs I Didn't Boil

Okay, you know you have been there...making deviled eggs or just in a hurry to peel an egg and when you go to peel it half the flippin' egg peels off with the shell or better yet when you crack the darn thing you have to peel the stinkin' shell off in teeny tiny pieces. For me at least it's one of the most aggravating things in life. I mean seriously...it's an egg....throw those babies in the water, boil and peel!!!! Should be easy, right?
Well............NOW IT IS!!!!! I found this recipe, How to Make Perfect Hard Boiled Eggs Without Boiling, just a couple of weeks ago and plopped it onto one of my Pinterest boards. I gave it a go yesterday. It worked like a charm!!!
Here are my eggs before going on the stove.
After following all the instructions, I really was able to peel my perfectly boiled eggs with one hand. I had to in order to take the photo with my iPhone.
So if your boiled eggs looked like a 2 year old peeled them half the time like mine, go give this method a go.

Leaping Lizards She's Gonna Drive!

I don't know about you but I just can't believe it's October already. The official start of the holidays for us. Between birthdays and holidays busy does not even describe the chaos that usually encircles our lives this time of year.
But before all that starts my baby girl starts driver's education on Monday with her bestie. I have not let her take it before now because I just didn't think she was ready. In my opinion, just because you hit a certain age does not automatically make you mature enough to drive. She has been a good sport about it all though and if she had taken it sooner she would not be taking it with her friend. I remember getting to take driver's ed as an elective in high school for a $50.00 fee. Nowadays it costs an arm and a leg here in Louisiana.
A $350.00 arm and leg to be exact. My niece lives in a suburb of Ft. Worth and over there it's only going to cost her around $60.00 and she can take her "class work" online. Here Shaina must put in 30 hours of classroom time and 8 hours of behind the wheel time. I really hope that the perils of driving and texting are addressed. This hits close to hope as a good friend of ours just laid her 24 yo son to rest this past Saturday for this very reason.
We also added a new gecko to our family. We have not had much luck with the past two reptiles. The water lizard perished because of shock. We had a flat tire on the way home from getting him and the stress of being in his carton too long before he was in his permanent home with us was just too much.
We then traded him for a bearded dragon. We actually got past the "warranty' period with him and we thought he was doing great. The only problem was that his tank and lights kept Shaina's room incredibly hot so we moved him to the living room. BIG MISTAKE!!! We could not keep him warm enough and he got very lethargic....soooo we moved him back to her room. He perked up immediately and we thought things were fine. Eight days later~DEAD!
My girl was devasted. I was pretty sad too. We invested a lot of time into this little guy and he was great fun to watch.
About 3 weeks ago we went to the pet store to purchase just regular little lizards like we see run around our yard. Instead of those we ended up getting a Crested Gecko.
I introduce to you "Pumpkin".
Last Wednesday I skipped Bible study at church so that me and Shaina could have supper with my son. He has one more year left in college and stays so busy. A sure fire way to see a son is to promise food of any sort so I treated us all to a sit down meal at Cheddar's. It's definitely a favorite place to eat. Good food and affordable! We always go by the pet store when we go to Shreveport so that's what me and Shaina did after we ate. Well...we came home with another gecko. Love these little guys. I am pretty positive this one is a boy. Finger's crossed that Pumpkin is a girl. This fella started out as mine but as of Saturday Shaina has decided to "trade" with me.
I introduce to you "Chevy".
I think the most fun of having 2 geckos is that my DD feels like she has a "hobby" with me. She just got plumb tickled when I bought Chevy. Who would have thought a Mama could bond with her teenage daughter over a reptile? It really goes to show ya that it's just taking the time to be interested in what your kiddo likes to keep that bond and line of communication open.
Well this has been a pretty lengthy post so I will close for now. See ya's on the flipside!!!!

I am super excited to show you CryztalRain's newest set of brushes. They are grungy and oh so wonderful to use for blending.
You can pick them up here at Deviant Scrap. Included with the brushes are png files if you prefer to work with them instead.
Here's what I created with them. It's one of my favorite pages ever. *I do think I will be going back and turning it into a wallpaper.*

We flew through last week like a tornado. I was acutely aware that it was the last week of summer and more than excited to welcome autumn. It however has yet to bring relief in the form of cooler weather. >very sad face<
Last Thursday was salon day again-->all fancy sounding<--the normal lingo around our house is haircut day...cuz by golly it's time to get that hair cut out of the eyes. I am mostly happy with my cut. Mostly means my stylist got the front right and not too short around my face but an epic fail with how she cut the back. Huge note to self....bring more photos. She has been cutting and styling my hair for a year and half now and each time I have to remind her to not cut too short. She however did an AMAZING job on my DD's hair. She wanted her's to have an edgy rocker chick look and that's exactly what she got. All in all I can't complain.
After lunch we tackled the dr. appt. I had made for DD. School work has always been a struggle. The environment at public school ended up being a negative and toxic force in her life. I can say though that for the most part her teachers worked hand in hand with me to help with DD's studies. I have been home schooling for a year and a half. I thought that more one on one time would help her. I had pursued all avenues and the only one left that I did not want to face was testing her for ADD. She is not hyper so not ADHD. Forms had to be filled out. People tracked down to help fill them out. Forms delivered. Wait. Wait. Wait. A call for an appt. to see the dr. finally comes.
End result. Yes for ADD. Fast forward. Only 3 days on her meds and she has worked independently which she just does not do well and she has worked ahead of her schedule. She expressed to me that it just makes sense to her now. I can not even express in words how excited I am that my sweet teenager is now able to be successful in her studies.
I was able to squeeze in a page created from a prompt on the Art Journal Caravan at SBG. I am a little ..ok A LOT...behind but that's ok. The image will be linked for full credits. Just Click on it.

The inspiration for this page comes from the skull brushes that I used from CryztalRain's Slighly Sinsister Brush and Image Pack @ Deviant Scrap. Society has made it too easy to call it quits after a commitment of marriage has been made. The vows get forgotten. This page is as much as a reminder to me as well. To many times I get so angry at my husband over some of the silliest things that should not even be a big deal. It's been easy for us to get busy in life and forget that our relationship with each other is just as and more important than all the things the world is throwing at us.

I am paying homage to to one of the great ladies who pioneered the way for the rest of us to dream the impossible. It's such a sad shame that her plane and her remains have never been recovered. One day, maybe? Or is she forever to remain shrouded in mystery? In the meantime join me in celebrating her story.

It's been non stop go since Thursday morning at 7 am. Up and getting ready for a 9 am dental appointment for DD left me feeling like I should have made it for after lunch as I would have much rather slept to at least 9. Me and DD take full advantage of our home schooling schedule. Why get up with the chickens if you don't have to right? <-----especially if you are not a morning person like us!
Afterwards it was a quick trip home to take my Mama her luggage for her "Sister Vacation" that she takes with 3 of her sisters every year. A quick visit and back to the house to do a quick tidy up before heading to Shreveport to
get DD's trial pair of contacts. They never have her RX in stock and I am a stickler for wanting her to wear the trial for a couple of weeks before ordering to make sure the RX works for her as it should. While we were there we played around some and tried on colored contacts. Not sure if we want them as they have to be taken out every single night. We are very spoiled to wearing ours for a week at a time.
Next stop was the pet store...just to look around and buy some Feliway for my cats. I have 2 males, litter mates, and 1 female. The boys drive the girl bananas and she stays in a perpetually bad mood. One of my males has started to pee on things to mark his territory. In lieu of rehoming one of the boys I am giving the Feliway a try. All my furbabies are 5 years old and I just could not bear thinking of parting with any of them. It's only been the weekend but they are all so calm and snuggly again with each other. All I can say is AMAZING!!! I am hoping it works with the pee problem.
I thought this red tree frog was pretty cool....not to bring home...just to admire.
This is was we did bring home. It's a crested gecko. DD wanted it and I told her that if she wanted it bad enough then she would have to pay for it. As you can see....SHE DID!!!! We won't know what the sex it until it's about 5 months old. It's about a month old now. I think he is the coolest little thing ever. These little critters were thought to be extinct until the 1990's. Fingers crossed he likes his new home with us.
Friday was spent taking my Mama to my Auntie's house so they could leave for vacation early Saturday morning. While my Mama was on the Road to Florida with the 3 sisters, I was at church helping get the decorations up for
Sunday's lunch after morning service. The theme was western. I just adored the simple mason jar vases with a few fresh flowers. Some were white and some were yellow which gave a super fun pop against the red table covers.
I seriously can't wait for the awesome fellowship and church service tomorrow!!!!
I got back home just in time to take DD to a swim party for one of her friends in youth group. I think it's evident I left her having a fabulous time with the birthday girl and her sister. We were invited to stay but I took full advantage of the afternoon and spent quality time with the hubby. I was able to make both of them feel #1 at the same time!!!! How awesome was that?!?!?
I am one tired girl!!!! It's 1 am on Sunday morning actually but it feels good to be back blogging and participating in life! Now the hard part will be dragging my behind out of bed in a few hours and getting my covered dish cooked while I get ready for Sunday School but it will be worth it when I get there. ;-)

Operation Take Charge of my Life is going good this week. I made it a point to get some time in on the treadmill. I thought it was going to kill me. But I did do it. I am going to start a food journal tomorrow. I am contemplating going on a weekend juice fast to cleanse some of the toxins out of my system from all the crappy food I have eaten all summer. I still need to do some research on it before totally making my mind up.
I have found some pages on my laptop that I created awhile back. The first one is one I made using CryztalRain's Reduce Reuse Recycle kit @ Deviant Scrap. It's just a fun reminder that we need to take care of our environment better. Clicking the image will take you to the gallery for full credits.

The eye exam was a success. My DD had to have her contacts special ordered but that was not a surprise as that's what they have to do every time for her. She did have a slight change in her vision but the optomistrist only changed her contact lens RX and said there was really no need to purchase new glasses unless we just wanted to spend the $$$. He didn't have to tell me twice..LOL! My vision did change but not drastically, just enough to put a horrid strain on my eyes and keep me with a chronic headache. I can already tell the difference with the new contact. I wear only one in my left eye for reading. It was sorta weird at first wearing only one contact but after the first week I got used to it. It's been over a year now and it's now no big deal.
After the eye exam I took my DD and her bestie shopping for a birthday gift
for a friend in their youth group at church. They giggled and poked fun at one another and couldn't resist shopping for themselves also. With gifts bought and both girls with a couple of new additions to their own wardrobes we settled in for lunch at Cheddar's before heading home.
The bestie had been with us since Wednesday so it was time for my DD to go to her house for the weekend. I have yet to hear all the fun details but I do know there was 4 wheelers and hunting shows involved. DD even ditched me after church this morning to go back to the bestie's house. I didn't mind though. This is the first real good friend my DD has had. The joys of giggly girl time has been scarce in my DD life so I welcome these experiences for her with open arms.
I finally found some scrapping mojo and did a LO on Saturday. It's of my DD and stepdaughter. I kept trying to add more elements to it but in the end
I decided that keeping it simple was the best way to showcase the story and the photo. Clicking on the photo will take you to the gallery to view the credits.

This summer has been one I would have rather not have had. I let old triggers open new wounds in a way that I did not think was possible. I have been blind sided by things that I had let my guard down about. The defenses and walls I have kept around my heart to even my dearest loved ones had almost been gone. I have let the sunny and cheerful public me hide the chaotic and down in the dumps me. My self-esteem had taken a huge blow courtesy of someone that I love dearly and me (yes I blame myself also). I let myself believe I was less than. I let myself believe that I didn't deserve time to myself, love, respect, kindness. I have felt foolish and stupid. This manifested into me not scrapping, gaining some weight back, not thinking I deserved to even go get new contacts/glasses that I needed and basically just shunning the world as much as possible while still "maintaining the look of normal" so that the outside world would not get too interested or nosy. It's literally been an effort to even get dressed most days and when I did it was to go do what I needed to do and come right back home and jump in the pajamas. One side of my brain is screaming get your act together and the other side screams just as loudly....."what for? and why even try?"
This is not the first time I have dealt with these type of feelings. I have worked hard to stay away from negatives that would bring me down. I feel like I have let myself down because here I am again making the mental climb to a better and healthier emotional place.
I am still not 100% but I am working hard to remember that I am the one responsible for how I react to my surroundings and to others around me. I
have to mentally take away their power to negatively impact me. It's very hard to do at times esp when the option of changing the surroundings are not there. I am working hard to remember that I am a role model for my daughter and that I want her to see that things and other people do not define who a person is.
So I sit here and blog not for sympathy or actually even compassion. It's a step for me to see the words literally in black and white. These words, this blog post will be a HUGE reminder of what I don't deserve nor experience. It will be a reminder that I am worthy and it's essentially up to me to make the most of every day that God has graced me with here on earth.
It's with this positive note that I end this post and get some rest before going to get that eye exam early Friday morning.

Can you believe it's almost the middle of July already? Where did the first part of the year go? Do you want to scream bring it back like me..well not all of it...just the fun and fabulous parts! A lot of them I haven't even blogged about..but will as I get back into the groove of balancing out some scrapbooking with the art journaling. I have a tendency to let the art journal projects pull me away from the stories I want to tell about my family, past and present.
Thanks for stopping by to see me today. Have a fabulous weekend, I know I will as I will be getting to meet up with a high school friend that I have not seen since graduation. :-D
June had me constantly on the road transporting my DD to her first summer job. She does not have a driver's permit as of yet but the exhaustion of running the roads with her this summer guarantees she will have one by next summer. She only worked 4 hours a day but it was a 45 minute round trip drive to get her there and pick her up. Tomorrow is her last day. She is happy and sad. Happy because she will not have that daily grind and sad she will not be making anymore money. She diligently saved her first two paychecks and purchased a new pet. I am very proud of her. She proved she really wanted him by doing this in addition to all the research she has done before her purchase.
Meet Hercules. He is a Chinese water dragon. She has wanted a bearded dragon for almost 2 years but after seeing that these little fellas were more active she changed her mind. He is approx. 6 months old and from head to tail one foot long. Fully grown he is expected to be 3 feet long.
We also just finished up dog sitting Gertie. She is my DD's long haired miniature daschund. She lived with us for a while and ended up being a permanent fixture at my ex-husband's house. It works well as it gives my DD company while she is visiting her dad. It also works especially well for my three cats. Needless to say they were quite a bit nerved up while Gertie was our house guest. She left to go back home Thursday night. I am giving plenty of kitty treats to absolve myself from guilt for traumatizing them...shhhh!!!! Can't let them know that's why...LOL!!!
Thanks for stopping by to see me today. Have a fabulous weekend, I know I will as I will be getting to meet up with a high school friend that I have not seen since graduation. :-D

CrackeD Brush and Image Pack and What a Mess Paper Packs are the newest goodies at CryztalRain's Deviant Scrap shop. My Mom was in the hospital when she released her ClockWorx Brush and Image Pack and Banners Brush and Image Pack so I was glad I could use them for the following pages for my journal. We have tried to pack in a gazillion things this week. I have been able to take my niece and nephews to church with me this past few weeks and they love it!!! I wasn't sure how well they would as we have changed churches since they last attended but I should not have worried. They look forward to going each week and if I am lucky on Wednesday nights also. One of my nephews got to stay with me from Wednesday through to Saturday noon. Even then he almost cried when he had to go home.
This was his Cross tattoo Ms. Marsha let him have. He was sporting it proudly.
We found out he was an ace at playing Barrel of Monkeys.
He has no problem hamming it up for the camera.
And I will leave you hanging to see the pics from the rest of his visit....you don't wanna miss....little boy and cute puppies....too cute for words!!!

Growing Up Too Fast

I remember as a preteen all anxious to hurry up and become a teenager. When I finally became one the next goal was to hurry up and be 16. Of course then the goal was 18 then 21. It seems I was always wanting to grow up, get out, conquer the world. Now there are days I want to go back to those teen years, move back home and to be honest conquering the house work and laundry would be heavenly so I would have time to wash my car. Funny how all that seemed to come back and bite me in the behind. It's also funny that no matter how old I get (and I am not saying I am old) I still feel like a little girl in a big world. I look like I have it together mainly because someone around my neck of the woods over here needs to....but on the inside I am still that unsure child wondering about her future and how things will turn out. The difference now is that I have my own teenager finding her wings. The more she stretches them the more I want to hold on to her so very tightly but I know I cannot. This life is her journey. I can only guide and pray that she makes all the very best decisions (some with my help of course for the time being). This summer marks her first pay taxes job. She has been volunteering at the library on Wednesday Storytime and when the spot came open it was offered to her. I am so excited and proud for her. We filled out her application this week and in the middle of it I just thought I was going to bawl like a baby.
Where did my little girl go? I am just not ready for her to be so grown up.
Where did my little girl go? I am just not ready for her to be so grown up.
This was the last week for her volunteer work until she starts her job in May. She will have her hands full helping with the Summer Reading Program. She will miss one week for a mission trip/camp with the youth at church and that almost made them change their mind but she has really impressed them and they decided she could still have the job.
I usually do not stay at the library while she volunteers so as not to intrude on her "space" and to show that I know she doesn't need a baby sitter but since this was the last day I indulged in browsing all the wonderful books. I walked out with 7 checked out. Three were cookbooks, one on Rose bush care, one nifty little one about things a used bookseller found over the years in books and two on dog and puppy care.
Afterwards we had a wonderful lunch together at a local cafe, hit the local Walmart for mostly stuff we could have done without and enjoyed a wonderful Wednesday evening at church.

I really just want to say how excited I am to have been accepted to be on the Creative Team for Hidden Vintage Studios at Deviant Scrap. These ladies are uber talented and are helping fill a niche that provides those of us who love vintage images with wonderful yumminess for either our digital journal page or mixed media ones. Very high quality and let's face it~they find it and we get the full benefit of using them w/o all the hard work. That's some serious time saving there. Of course I am itching to go flea market shopping and the first thing on my list of goodies are vintage photographs. So without further ado I would like to show off 2 new goodies from these ladies.
I used Almost Alice for this one. Full color and sepia toned pngs included along with jpeg printable sheets. Clicking on the image will take you to the gallery for full credits.
I had a blast creating this one with May Flowers. It's filled with lovely ladies
holding flowers in both color and sepia tones. Jpeg printables are included. Clicking on the image will take you to the gallery for full credits.
Please feel free to come post in the gallery or link up if you create a page using these divine new images. I love to be inspired!!!!

Wide Open Spaces

This just purely a fun page. Sometimes a girl just wants to get away from it all. We spend so much time caring for others instead of ourselves and I can't think of anything better except to find some big blue skies and a wide open space to just feel free from all of life's demands for at least a short time.
I used Clementines Designs Are We There Yet? kit available at Deviant Scrap.
I totally love the retro feel this kit has~reminds me of when I was a child with a lot less cares. Clicking on the photo will take you to the gallery for the full credits.
Thanks for taking a peek and if you make a page with this kit~link me up cuz I would love to see what you did.

I have a new goodie to share with you from Lilacs in Bloom today. I am a bit late in posting as I have been at the hospital with my Mom for emergency surgery and then we had some complications~so without any more fanfare...
Here is something I created for Gina aka Lilacs in Bloom at Shabby Pickle. I used her newest packages of masks called Baby Blooms Vol 4 available at Shabby Pickle Designs. I also used her This is Me Kit that's a collab between her and Boutique Cute Doll. Clicking the photo will take you to the gallery for the full credits.
So hop on by and give these a twirl~they are super fun to play with!

About Me
- Balinda (RebelChick)
- Just an everyday girl trying to find my way in the world to live life fiercely and passionately. I was a signature tagger for several years but art journaling has replaced that passion and it feeds my soul creativiely and spiritually. I also homeschool my DD, scrapbook, play around in photography, spoil my cats and drive my hubby insane on a daily basis. My faith in the Lord helps me juggle all these blessings. I keep this blog because it makes me happy. Sometimes I blog a lot and other times it collects a little dust. Thanks for visiting and being my friend.♥
